Rep. Vic Fazio to Discuss Health Care, Hunger During UC Davis Visit

U.S. Rep.Vic Fazio, D-Woodland, will speak on health-care reform and hunger during two public addresses at the University of California, Davis, on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Fazio, who represents the state's 3rd Congressional District, will speak about health-care reform at the law school at 2:30 p.m. in Room 1008 (the moot court room). His talk is sponsored by the Associated Students of UC Davis, and by the King Hall Legal Foundation as part of its educational speaker series. The foundation is the largest student organization in the law school and was established in 1978 to encourage law students to practice public-interest law. At 4:10 p.m., Fazio will speak on the issue of hunger in the United States in the Cabernet Room of the Silo building. As a member of the House Select Committee on Hunger, Fazio will discuss the roles politics and science can play in solving hunger problems. He also will address the role of the university in developing policy and new technologies related to hunger issues. His talk is part of the food science and technology department's winter seminar series on hunger and malnutrition. Fazio's district includes the counties of Yolo, Sutter, Colusa, Glenn and Tehama, as well as parts of Solano, Sacramento and Butte counties. Fazio is vice chair for the Democratic caucus, serves on the Appropriations Committee and leads the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative branch, which has jursidiction over funds for Congress as well as the Library of Congress, General Accounting Office and the Congressional Budget Office. In addition, Fazio is vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, which oversees a variety of independent agencies and programs in the departments of Energy, Interior and Defense. Both of Fazio's appearances are free and open to the public.
