Robert A. Fox, who just retired as president and chief executive officer of Foster Farms, has been appointed executive-in-residence at the Graduate School of Management at UC Davis beginning in March.
As a visiting professor, he will bring more than 40 years of domestic and international business experience to a 10-week seminar on corporate strategy from the perspective of the chief executive officer.
Robert Smiley, dean of the business school, says Fox's breadth of experience in several industries makes him ideal for the executive-in-residence program. "His experienced view on business strategy will enable students to see the genuine push and tug a CEO feels while running a company," he says. "I think it will be a very successful class."
In his eight years at Foster Farms, Fox led the largest poultry producer in the Western United States to record sales and profits. His prior experience includes serving as chief executive officer of Revlon International; chair of Clarke Hooper America; president of Continental Can; vice chair of Nabisco; president, chair and chief executive officer of Del Monte; and president of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco International. He also has worked for Hunt Wesson Foods, Canada Dry Corp., Thomas J. Lipton and Procter & Gamble.
A past president of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, Fox earned an MBA from Harvard University.
Each year, the Graduate School of Management invites a senior-level, often recently retired executive to teach a course on management strategy. Other participants in the program have been W. Keith Kennedy of Watkins-Johnson Co., John R. Thomas of J.P. Morgan Trust Bank Ltd. (Japan) and John Collins of The Clorox Company.
