Rhetorician Recognized for Career Achievements

James Murphy, professor emeritus of rhetoric and communication at UC Davis, was honored recently with a Festschrift -- a career achievement award -- presented to him in Edinburgh. The award was given in the form of a book, titled "Rhetoric and Pedagogy: Its History, Philosophy and Practice." Murphy was the only American of the small group of international scholars who founded the International Society for the History of Rhetoric in 1977, and he was the prime initiator and first editor of Rhetorica. Murphy was also recently made a fellow of the Medieval Academy of America.
