To raise funds for three student-affiliated health care clinics and to increase awareness of the importance of health and fitness, the UC Davis Chapter of the American Medical Student Asociation will sponsor its third annual Heart Beat Run and Health Fair on Saturday, March 6, at the UC Davis School of Medicine. The event, from 9 a.m. to noon, will include a 10K run, a 5K run/walk and children's runs, as well as the health fair, say coordinators Adam Bock and Andy Chin, second-year medical students. The health fair will offer blood-pressure, cholesterol and skin-cancer testing; body fat measurements; lung capacity analysis; massages; and information on a variety of health topics, including podiatry, poisons, alcoholism, breast cancer, AIDS and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. "We'll also have a Runners' Hall of Pain where we'll give information to runners and prospective runners," Bock says. Proceeds will benefit Clinica Tepati and the Asian Clinic, both of Sacramento, and the Davis Community Clinic. Also, funds will support the medical students' AIDS education project at secondary schools in Sacramento and Yolo counties.
