Seminar to Focus on Agricultural Risk Management

Deputy Chief Economist Joseph Glauber of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Undersecretary A.J. Yates of the California Department of Food and Agriculture will speak at a risk management seminar in Sacramento Wednesday, Oct. 21. The daylong seminar is being sponsored by the USDA's Risk Management Agency along with the Agricultural Issues Center, based at UC Davis, and University of California Cooperative Extension. Glauber will speak shortly after 9 a.m., and Yates, at a noon luncheon. Five sessions will focus on risk areas of particular importance in California: markets, production and finance; labor supply, management and regulations; environmental regulations and water issues; and family finance and estate planning. The sessions are designed for growers and professionals serving agribusiness -- bankers, consultants, cooperatives, packers, processors, commodity representatives and university extension personnel. Advance registration for the seminar, to be held at the DoubleTree Hotel on Point West Way, is required and can be arranged by calling the Agricultural Issues Center at (530) 752-2320.
