Seminar to Plan Shift of Defense Technologies to Transportation

WHAT: To find ways to use military technologies for solving transportation problems, the U.S. Department of Transportation is sponsoring one of four regional seminars across the country at the University of California, Davis. Titled "Promoting Transportation Applications in Defense Conversion and Other Advanced Technologies," the daylong seminar will focus on three areas: transportation and the environment, infrastructure modernization and rehabilitation, and new vehicle technology. The seminar is hosted by the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies, internationally recognized for its interdisciplinary research program centered on energy, environment and diverse technologies for future sustainable transportation needs. Transit Admin. 9:15 a.m. "Transportation and the Environment" 10:30 a.m. Tour of transportation technology exhibits 1 p.m. "Infrastructure Modernization and Rehabilitation" 2:30 p.m. "New Vehicle Technology" WHERE: Alpha Gamma Rho Hall Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center UC Davis VISUALS: The tour of transportation technology exhibits will include the Fuel Cell Vehicle Laboratory at UC Davis, which has a state-of-the-art fuel cell used in the first fuel-cell vehicle to operate in North America. Media can try experimental in-route guidance systems in the driver simulator. Other advanced technologies from aerospace and high-tech companies will be displayed. Electric vehicles in use in California will also be available to view and ride. DIRECTIONS From Sacramento, take the UC Davis exit off I-80. Turn right on AND PARKING: Old Davis Road. At the stop sign, turn right and continue to stoplight. Turn right, and the Alumni and Visitors Center is immediately to the left. Park in any of the lots to the right.
