Six Scientists Honored With Election to AAAS

Six scientists from the University of California, Davis, have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The elected fellows, who represent six campus departments and programs, are Ernest S. Chang, professor of biological sciences at Bodega Marine Laboratory; Dr. Murray B. Gardner, professor emeritus of medical pathology; Shu Geng, professor of agronomy and range science; Claude F. Meares, professor of chemistry; Richard F. Post, professor emeritus of applied sciences; and Paul K. Stumpf, professor emeritus of molecular and cellular biology. Members of AAAS are elevated to the rank of fellow in recognition of their "efforts toward advancing science or fostering applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished." This distinction was awarded to 297 association members this year. AAAS, founded in 1848, is the world's largest federation of scientists, with more than 140,000 members. The association publishes the weekly journal Science.
