Hanspeter Witschi, associate director of the UC Toxic Substances Research and Teaching Program at UC Davis, recently received two awards from the Society of Toxicology: the Zeneca Traveling Lectureship Award and the Career Achievement Award from the "inhalation specialty" section of the society. For the last 20 years Witschi has studied lung disease, including lung cancer, caused by chemicals. He also does research on ozone, a common air pollutant, and on environmental tobacco smoke. The society is an international organization with some 3,000 members.
