At the annual American Sociological Association meeting this year, the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction honored UC Davis sociology professor John Lofland with the George Herbert Mead Award, presented for career contributions to the advancement of the study of human behavior and social life. Lofland is a founding leader of the reflexive movement in sociological and urban ethnography; a leading scholar in the fields of deviance, social movements, ethnography, and peace studies; and pioneer in the social-scientific discovery and study of everyday life.
