UC Davis students make the best ambassadors, especially when it comes to showing parents and high-school students the Davis campus, according to Richard Donnell, campus tour director. "Professional tour guides just don't possess the enthusiasm nor the perspective that UC Davis students have in explaining campus life," says Donnell. Student guides conduct more than 1,000 tours a year, involving more than 30,000 people. Spring is the busiest time of the year for the campus's 35 student guides. "In addition to walking tours, we have two trams that can take large groups on sightseeing excursions around the campus," says Donnell. "Not every school has a college of agriculture or a veterinary school that can offer farm animal tours." For the student tour guides the most rewarding aspect is receiving letters from students who say that they chose to attend UC Davis partly because of the informative tour.
