• Greg Reimers -- graduate student and team leader, mechanical engineering department, (916) 752-5834.Graduate and undergraduate engineering students at UC Davis have worked all year in preparing a hybrid vehicle -- designed to run on both electricity and gasoline -- for international competition June 14-20 in Detroit. The students' entry is capable of speeds up to 100 mph and can travel more than 1,000 miles on a combination of electricity and gasoline before refueling or recharging. "We hope that this vehicle will prove to automotive engineers that students with very little money can build a practical car that meets most people's needs," says Reimers.
