What: UC Davis students will begin dropping off unwanted household goods collected during the past academic year to California's Short Term Emergency Aid Commission and to the Davis Cold Weather Shelter.
Tons of items, like refrigerators, appliances, televisions, older computers, tables, chairs, lamps, bed frames and clothing are expected to be collected at the first annual UC Davis Recovery Drive. Instead of leaving usable items behind for waste-removal trucks, students are encouraged to drop off their household goods at a designated location.
When: Saturday, June 3, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Where: Hutchison field, north of Recreation Hall, UC Davis
Visuals: Students will be dropping off their donations to a group of student volunteers who will separate the material into large storage bins. In addition, students will have an opportunity to place their used belongings in specially marked receptacles located at residence halls, the student Memorial Union, Recreation Hall and the Silo until the spring quarter ends on June 16.
Background: In the past, campus waste-removal trucks routinely dumped tons of leftover student household wares into the landfill prior to the summer break. Students at UC Davis along with a number of campus student service organizations are making a real effort this year to reduce the waste. Nearly 10 student groups are sponsoring the recovery drive.
Parking From Interstate 80 take Highway 113 headed toward Woodland.
and Directions: Take the Hutchison Road exit and turn right. Proceed east on Hutchison Road to the first signal light. The Hutchsion grass field is located to the northeast of the intersection of Hutchison and La Rue Road. If your vehicle is unmarked, place a business card on the dashboard.
