Students Put Soul Into Dance

Dancers of the soul, better known as the Danzantes del Alma dance troupe from UC Davis, will be presenting their annual night of Mexican folk dancing on Saturday, April 27. Nearly all of the dancers are students at UC Davis who work all year to learn and perform contemporary and traditional dances of Mexico. In addition to dancing, the troupe also visits elementary schools to educate young children about Mexican culture and the importance of education. In recognition of that effort, the dance troupe will perform a one-hour matinee especially designed for children in the UC Davis Main Theatre at noon on April 27. The featured performance for this year's 19th annual show will also be in the Main Theatre, the same day beginning at 7 p.m. This year's theme of "Sowing Seeds of Culture and Cultivating Our Traditions" will feature dances from nine geographical regions of Mexico.
