Summer Faculty Offer Menu of Noon-Hour Talks

The public is invited to join UC Davis students Wednesdays fromnoon to 1 p.m. in the Silo's Cabernet Room for a little food-for-thought as summer session faculty members speak about their research. Kicking off the six-week Summer Faculty Speakers Series on July 12 will be nutrition lecturer Elizabeth Applegate, discussing new areas of nutrition research. Applegate, a triathlete as well as an authority on the relationship between nutrition and exercise, is the author of the book "Power Foods: High Performance Nutrition for High Performance People." Other talks will feature Lincoln Hurst, an associate professor of religious studies, examining "How Political Was Jesus?" on July 19; Carol Blair, an associate professor of rhetoric and communication, discussing "The Civil Rights Memorial: Rhetorical Performance of Commemoration, Politics and Race" on July 26; Linda Acredelo, a professor of psychology, talking about "Helping Babies 'Talk' Before Babies Can Talk" on Aug. 2; Daniel Wick, summer sessions director and integrated studies lecturer, talking about "Why the CIA Should be Abolished" on Aug. 9; and Dahlia Moore, a summer faculty member from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, discussing "Attitude Changes and the Emergence of Post-Materialism in Israel" on Aug. 16.
