Summer Showers

Kids' Camp, the summer program for kids who never want to stop, includes a little water balloon action last week with counselors Jeff Shasky and Mike Tung doing the final dousing after an afternoon of wet stuff. Directed through the Athletics Department by women's lacrosse coach Brendan Blakeley, the camp offers nine one-week sessions through mid-August. More than a dozen undergraduate counselors spend each week leading 60 children ages 7-12 on campus adventures, ranging from chemistry magic shows to visits to the botany greenhouse and campus airport. The camp kids will hear about what it is like to be a Peace Corps volunteer in Zimbabwe or a member of ROTC. They'll also see martial arts and fencing demonstrations and tour the KDVS radio station. "We try to give them a well-rounded program to see if we can't spark an interest in college," Blakeley says.
