A top administrator from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will discuss on July 8 the future of sustainable agriculture under the Clinton administration at the UC Davis agronomy department's field headquarters. Patrick Madden, associate director of the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education/Agriculture in Concert with the Environment program, will address a group of farmers and scientists attending a field day at 12:45 p.m. For the past five years, a multidisciplinary team of researchers has been working on a 28-acre research site on campus to investigate more sustainable methods of farming major field crops. The agronomists, pest-management and irrigation specialists, economists, and others working on the project will discuss what they are learning about low-input and organic farming practices. The field headquarters is located on Hutchison Drive just off Highway 113.
