A widely respected nutritionist from the Nestlé Research Center in Switzerland will discuss "Nutrition and Health in the '90s: The Role of Industry in Academic Research" on Thursday, April 30, at the University of California, Davis.
Edward B. Fern, head of the nutrition department at the Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, and a Regents Lecturer on campus, will present the public talk at 7 p.m. in 3 Kleiber Hall.
Fern, who uses sophisticated analytical techniques to study the protein requirements of the human body, will talk about his own research and how scientists in academia and industry can collaborate to pursue important research goals.
The Nestlé Research Center, established and supported by the Nestlé Corp., houses several hundred researchers conducting basic scientific studies related to food and nutrition. The Nestlé Corp. also supports nutrition research and graduate education at UC Davis.
Fern's visit to the Davis campus as a Regents Lecturer is sponsored by the UC Davis Department of Nutrition. The Regents Lecture Program is designed to bring outstanding individuals to the UC campuses to share their expertise with students, faculty and the public.
