Symposium to Focus on Women's Health

The environmentally related health concerns of women will be the focus of a daylong symposium at UC Davis to be held Monday, Jan. 10. "Pesticides, agricultural byproducts, heavy metals, dust and air pollution all affect women's health to a greater degree than in previous generations, now that many more women are engaged in the work force," says Fumio Matsumura, director of the UC Davis Center for Environmental Health Sciences, which is coordinating the meeting. "With this symposium, our center is taking a new direction away from the traditional male model in health research by looking at the health concerns of women in the home and at the workplace." Speakers from UC Davis and other institutions will talk about breast cancer research, nutrition, cardiovascular disease, the status of women agricultural workers and future directions in women's health. The symposium will be held at the Walter A. Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.
