Around 700 teams of girls and young women from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico will come to UC Davis and surrounding communities Sunday, June 26, for the National Junior Volleyball Championships. During the weeklong event, 7,000 participants, ages 12-18, will compete on 115 volleyball courts in Davis, Sacramento, Fairfield, Winters and Woodland. This is the 10th year that UC Davis has hosted the event, which brings in some of the best teams in the nation, says event organizer Bernice Epperson. "We created a format that allows everybody to play the entire time. Each day the seeding is refined so that mismatches don't occur and teams play others who have comparable skill as their own," says Epperson. Final matches will take place in Recreation Hall at UC Davis on Saturday, July 2.
