Thousands to Visit for Picnic Day

One of the largest annual picnics in California will be held Saturday, April 17, when tens of thousands of people come to UC Davis for Picnic Day. Opening ceremonies for the daylong campus open house will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the north end of the Quad, followed by a parade through the campus and downtown Davis. Musical entertainment, sporting events, departmental exhibits and a rodeo are planned. Police dog demonstrations and the traditional dachshund races will be among six different dog events scheduled throughout the day near Recreation Hall. Picnic Day, now in its 80th year, is organized by a 12-member student board of directors. It gives the UC Davis campus an opportunity to showcase its accomplishments, according to Jennifer Hilbert, Picnic Day publicity chair.
