Thriving in the 21st Century: Creating Tahoe's Future

Members of the public are invited to join an open, free community forum on the future of the Tahoe Basin at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nev., on Monday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The half-day forum is part of a three-day retreat of people from businesses and organizations around the country who are interested in creating healthy economies in communities in fragile natural and social environments. The Tahoe Center for a Sustainable Future and Communities of the Future are the sponsors of the retreat. Joining them are individuals from many groups, including Sun Microsystems, New Road Map Foundation, Blacksburg Electronic Village and the President's Council on Sustainable Development. At the community forum on Monday, speakers will discuss means of influencing growth and change to create desirable living and working conditions in the region. Starting at 11 a.m., the discussion will be opened to the attendees. Pre-registration is requested but not required. The forum will be held in the college's Patterson Hall.
