Top Campus Administrators to Staff Phone Lines For Calls From Public

UC Davis' top administrators will be staffing a bank of telephones for two hours Wednesday, April 19, eager to hear what's on callers' minds. The chancellor, vice chancellors and deans are participating in a "Campus Leaders on Call" pilot project designed to strengthen relationships, build understanding, gather ideas and solve problems. "In this time of increased accountability, anything we can do to reach out to our community and to increase understanding of higher education ought to be pursued vigorously," says Rich Matheny, vice chancellor for university relations. "That's why we'll be waiting by the phones April 19, hoping people take advantage of this additional opportunity to connect with us, to ask questions, to let us know what's working well and what needs further thought. We really depend on these kinds of exchanges." This pilot project, which will be headquartered in basement Room 30 of Mrak Hall, piggybacks on Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef's monthly brownbag briefings for faculty, staff and students. To connect with senior campus administrators, callers should dial (916) 752-4211 between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
