Top Campus Administrators to Staff Phone Lines for Calls from Public

What: UC Davis' top administrators will be staffing a bank of telephones for two hours, eager to hear what's on callers' minds. The chancellor, vice chancellors and deans are participating in a "Campus Leaders on Call" pilot project designed to strengthen relationships, build understanding, gather ideas and solve problems. "In this time of increased accountability, anything we can do to reach out to our community and to increase understanding of higher education ought to be pursued vigorously," says Rich Matheny, vice chancellor for university relations. "That's why we'll be waiting by the phones, hoping people take advantage of this additional opportunity to connect with us, to ask questions, to let us know what's working well and what needs further thought. We really depend on these kinds of exchanges." To connect with senior campus administrators, callers should dial (916) 752-4211 during the hours listed below. When: Wednesday, April 19 4:30-6:30 p.m. Where: Room 30 in the basement of Mrak Hall UC Davis Visuals: Twenty-five administrators will commandeer three tables of telephones normally used by students to solicit contributions from alumni and parents in support of UC Davis. The administrators, eight "call directors" and two of the student telephone solicitors will be available to reporters throughout the event. Parking: From Interstate 80, take the UC Davis exit to Old Davis Road. Turn right and proceed past the south gate information kiosk. Turn right at the stop sign, continuing on Old Davis Road. Turn left at the traffic light onto Mrak Hall Drive. Parking is available in the Mrak Hall lot, at nearby meters, or in the visitor parking lot at the intersection of Mrak Hall Drive and Old Davis Road. Reporters may park in most places for free. If your vehicle is unmarked, place a business card on the driver's side dashboard.
