The chancellor, vice chancellors and deans will be staffing the phone lines from 6 to 8 p.m., reprising the "Campus Leaders on Call" project piloted last spring to strengthen relationships, build understanding, gather ideas and solve problems. Those phoning in should dial (916) 752-4211. Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef and his senior administrative team are hoping to best last year's tally of 70 phone calls -- a leaner response than anticipated but perhaps influenced by the devastating bombing that day of an Oklahoma City federal building. This year's calling time has been moved a little later in the day to make it easier for those hustling home from work or class to get dinner on the table and still eke out time for a call. "We'll once again be waiting by the phones, hoping people take advantage of this additional opportunity to connect with us, to ask questions, to let us know what's working well and what needs further thought," said Vice Chancellor for University Relations Rich Matheny. "We really depend on these kinds of exchanges." "Campus Leaders on Call" piggybacks on the chancellor's monthly brownbag briefings for faculty, staff and students.
