Transportation Meeting Promotes New Technologies, Environment

The UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies will host the second in a series of four regional seminars sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday, Oct. 26, titled "Promoting Transportation Applications in Defense Conversion and Other Advanced Technologies." With the dual purposes of advancing President Clinton's technology policy and reinforcing DOT's commitment to transportation research, the seminars are expected to draw regional leaders in industry, small businesses, national laboratories, academia, state and local government, and community development. Three other seminars are being held across the country. Seminar topics for the campus conference, held at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center, include transportation and the environment, infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance, and new vehicle technology. UC Davis research programs related to these areas focus on electric and other alternative-fueled vehicles, efficiency and environmental impacts of fuels, travel behavior and smart highway and vehicle technology.
