UC Davis Engineering College Hires Development Director

Janet Krovoza, a former associate director of development at Stanford University, has been appointed director of development for the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis. Krovoza was the associate director of development for the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford from 1988 to 1991. Previously she was a science writer and editor for the Office of Public Affairs at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. She received a bachelor's degree in anthropology and zoology from UC Davis and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. At UC Davis her responsibilities include implementing the second phase of the college's $25 million fund-raising campaign, overseeing its annual giving program, and developing and conducting other donor relations and recognition programs for the college. She will also manage alumni and parent relations programs, represent the college in campus and systemwide development activities, and maintain liaison with departments for fund-raising activities. Krovoza joined UC Davis in January. "Janet's background in science, her development experience at Stanford, and the fact that she is an alumna of UC Davis will all help her to serve the college and the campus by strengthening our ties with alumni, friends, industry, foundations and other supporters," said M.S. Ghausi, dean of the College of Engineering. "Her public affairs experience will assist us in enhancing public understanding of our college's contribution to the economic and technological well-being of our state and our nation." Krovoza said she hopes to lead the college through the second half of its successful fund-raising campaign, building on the partnerships with corporations and foundations developed in the campaign's first phase and increasing support from alumni and individuals. The campaign's first phase, with a goal of $10 million, was launched in 1987 in honor of the college's 25th anniversary and exceeded its goal. Assisted by the volunteer leaders of the Advisory Committee for Development and by the faculty, staff and students of the college, she will endeavor to ensure that the college reaches its second phase goal of $15 million to be used to enhance teaching and research programs. Among Krovoza's goals are increasing the college's endowment for student support and faculty chairs, and raising unrestricted funds for the college and its departments. "I'm joining the college at a very exciting time in its brief history," she said. "We're already respected for our excellent teaching and strong research programs. A successful Silver Anniversary Campaign will let us build on those assets and set the pace for our next 25 years."
