Enrollment at the University of California, Davis, continues to grow, with a total of 24,866 students enrolled this fall -- 312 more than enrolled last year. The student body slipped slightly in diversity, with nonwhite ethnic students making up 52 percent of domestic undergraduates, compared to 52.1 percent last fall. Small gains and small losses were registered within individual underrepresented groups.
"This year's entering class of first-year students and transfer students again is a remarkably highly qualified group of young people who join us to pursue their academic interests and prepare themselves to take their places as scholars, professionals and leaders in their communities," said Carol F. Wall, vice chancellor for student affairs. "They come to us from all regions within the state and represent every ethnic and cultural group coming from our high schools and community colleges.
"In the first class admitted under the constraints of SP-1 and Proposition 209, we simultaneously are pleased that our numbers from the historically underrepresented groups remain relatively stable and are committed to ensuring, through our efforts in K-12, that the university population will mirror more and more closely the population of the state."
The final fall enrollment figure of 24,866 is 104 more than anticipated. New freshman enrollments were 15 more than expected; new transfer students, 17 more.
