UC Davis Police Arrest Barricaded Student

A University of California, Davis, student who barricaded himself in his dormitory room early today was apprehended unharmed by the campus police department. At 2:54 a.m. on Sunday an emergency call came into the UC Davis Police Department reporting a noise of breaking glass heard from the fourth floor of Ryerson Hall, a five-story student residence hall near Russell Boulevard and LaRue Road. Keith L.A. Humphreys, 18, of San Anselmo, was threatening suicide, according to police Capt. Mike Corkery, of the UC Davis Police Department. For the next four hours, police negotiators attempted to persuade the student into surrendering. At 7:54 a.m. police decided to make a forced entry into the room after not hearing any response for more than an hour. The student was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured. The sounds of breaking glass were beer bottles being thrown about the room, Corkery said. After Humphreys was taken into custody, he was transported to Woodland Memorial Hospital for medical treatment and psychiatric evaluation, releasing him later. Humphreys was subsequently arrested for disturbing the peace.
