Agribusiness and public policy leaders will participate in asymposium on U.S. agricultural economics at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22 at the Radisson Hotel in Sacramento. Clayton Yeutter, former U.S. agriculture secretary, will discuss agriculture in the next century. "Within a few years after the turn of the century, the quantity of American farm exports will be beyond anything we even contemplate today," says Yeutter. Internationally-known plant pathology expert George Bruening, a UC Davis professor and director of the campus's Center for Engineering Plants for Resistance Against Pathogens also will speak. Bruening will discuss how genetically engineered agricultural crops will produce ingredients for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to replace products now derived from petroleum.
