More than 800 species of uncommon garden plants will be for sale at UC Davis during its popular annual Plant Faire. Thousands of California native plants, herbs, shrubs, bulbs, vines, bedding perennials and trees will be available on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UC Davis arboretum headquarters. Plant propagators have spent countless hours in campus greenhouses preparing for this one-day sale, which raises money to support the arboretum. For people without yards, house plants, cacti and succulents will be available. Many of the species are not available at most local nurseries. Most of the plants have originated from seeds and cuttings collected in the nationally recognized UC Davis arboretum. Special items include 43 antique rose varieties, a major collection of greenhouse orchids, and plants with low water requirements. Expert gardeners will be at the 18th annual Plant Faire to provide information and answer questions.
