Veterinarian is "Sheepman of the Year" for Improving Vaccines

Nancy East, professor of medicine and epidemiology in the School of Veterinary Medicine and chief of the Food Animal Reproduction and Herd Health Service at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis, has received the 1996 California Sheepman of the Year Award from the California Wool Growers Association. East, also a sheep producer in Colusa County, was recognized for creating better vaccines that fight vibrio and chlamydia and thus prevent abortion, minimizing neonatal mortality through better management of ewes at lambing time, and integrating management and health practices to maximize commercial sheep production.
