UC Davis postdoctoral researcher Shabbir Ahmad received the 1993-1994 Excellence in Graduate Research award from the campus chapter of Sigma Xi -- The Scientific Research Society. A veterinarian and native of Pakistan, Ahmad completed a Ph.D. program in molecular virology under the guidance of Professor Tilahun Yilma, director of the International Laboratory of Molecular Biology for Tropical Disease Agents.
