Louis Botsford -- UC Davis professor of wildlife, fish and conservation biology, (916) 752-6169, lwbotsford@ucdavis.edu.An expert on the dynamics of fish populations, Botsford has developed a model for predicting the flows and diversions necessary to support higher levels of striped bass needed for the federal Central Valley Project Improvement Act (1994). As part of the recovery team for the endangered winter run chinook salmon, Botsford developed an extinction model that was used to describe recovery. The plan is expected to be released for public comment within the next year by the National Marine Fisheries Service.
