* May 9 to 11, Friday to Sunday -- About 20,000 people are expected to attend the 33rd annual Whole Earth Festival at UC Davis. Flavored by activism in the cause of the environment and social justice, the event will feature educational workshops, informational booths, craft vendors and more than 30 musical acts. With the theme of inspiring change, organizers say they want people to "reject the status quo of over-consumption and war-making, and to build a new reality based on love, justice, compassion and respect for the Earth and all life." Centered on the Quad, the event will begin at noon Friday and conclude at 6 p.m. Sunday.
