Censorship, homophobia and the CIA are targets of satire in "Paganoia," a play to be performed by the Windows Musical Mask Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Wyatt Theatre at the University of California, Davis.
Windows has performed for several years in the Davis and Sacramento area, confronting in original works such topics as reproductive rights, peace and environmental issues. The group uses a synthesis of music, art, dance, masks, poetry, politics, drama and mythology.
"Paganoia" will be performed with live music, featuring indigenous melodies from South, Central and North America. Dancers wear elaborate costumes and masks carved by the Nahua Indians of Guerro, Mexico.
The performance is free and open to the public. Co-sponsors of the event are the UC Davis Women's Resources and Research Center, Women's Studies, Rape Prevention Education Program, Department of Sociology, Campus National Organization for Women (NOW), and Gay and Lesbian University Employees.
Other co-sponsors are Yolo County NOW, Yolo County American Civil Liberties Union, Women's Health Associates, The Artery, the Natsoulas-Novelozo Gallery, Natural Food Works, Birkenstocks Plus, Blind Ambition, the Wardrobe, Jim Fahey and Carol Jorgenson.
