The nuts and bolts of biotechnology in agriculture -- food safety issues, prospects for the future, what happens in the laboratory, and public policy -- is the focus of an educational workshop Nov. 6-8 at UC Davis. Reporters are welcome to attend the program, designed to update Cooperative Extension farm advisors and employees, as well as other interested people. It begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, and ends at noon on Sunday, Nov. 8. "Genetically engineered food products will soon be on the market, and there's a lot of misinformation concerning them," says workshop co-organizer Martina McGloughlin, associate director of the biotechnology program at UC Davis. "We hope to provide information from all sides of the issue, so people can better understand these new foods." Reporters interested in attending the program, funded primarily by the UC Systemwide Biotechnology Program, should reserve a spot.
