Several organization at UC Davis are teaming up for a staff and retiree food drive in May.
Donations are being accepted through May 31 at several locations on the Davis and Sacramento campuses:
- Occupational Health Services (Cowell Building)
- Activities and Recreation Center
- Administrative Services West
- Walker Hall
- UC Davis Health Fitness Center
Organizers are seeking:
- Canned food
- Pantry staples (e.g. rice, pasta)
- Low-preparation items
- Shelf stable snacks
- Toiletries
A detailed donation guide is available online.
The food drive is a partnership between Staff Assembly, the Retiree Association, the UC Davis chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, and Employee Well-being.
Organizers cited a survey last year from the Employee Basic Needs Initiative — part of Healthy UC Davis — that found 41% of Davis campus staff and 54% of Sacramento campus staff are at risk for food insecurity.
“Supporting colleagues facing food instability is a vital way to foster a healthier, more resilient workplace,” organizers said. “Your contributions directly impact the well-being and stability of our campus community.”
Food will be distributed at an event in June; more details are forthcoming and will be posted online.
